Finding a SOLUTION…

Today I had one of those moments… One of those moments as a parent where you say to yourself- “Wow, I nailed that”. Lord knows that those moments can seem few and far between when you’re parenting! However after a small reflection, I was able to recognize just how meaningful my moment was. As we came in from picking blueberries, playing freeze tag, and just plain running- I announced that it was time for a bath.

Well, my youngest wasn’t buying the idea. He had already decided that if he got into a shower that his fingers would hurt where he had gotten a brush burn a few days earlier. So I said, “Well Jace, we have a problem… and we need to find a solution” So simple it sounded, right?

Well Jace looked at me with those big blue eyes and said “What a solution Mama?” So I dug in and gave my best go at it. “Well hunny, a solution is something that solves a problem or a dilemma” So after a few more question on and off topic we decided that our solution was to put band-aids on both fingers to cover the boo-boos- and voila! no water in the cuts. After bandaging up, he bounded into the bathroom ready for some bubble fun. HOWEVER, without the band-aids (or the SOLUTION) Jace wouldn’t have felt confident in his ability to feel good in the bath.

This idea of teaching kids the meaning of a solution pulled me into the meaning behind this blog. Solutions are necessary in life, especially when there is a problem. The problem could be as simple as putting band-aids on a cut finger- or as difficult as having to decide to become gluten & casein free. Either way, we need to find a solution- and my solution was making it consciously simple so that we could feel empowered in the ability to control our health.
